Elephant bathing near Savute Elephant Camp, Chobe National Park, Boswana (photo)
An elephant bathes quietly in one of the camp near Savute Elephant Camp by Orient Express in Botswna in Chobe National Park streams. African elephants compete with the people of Botswana, and protected areas are inadequate to ensure the survival of elephants , especially in arid and semi-arid areas where elephants depend on resources and space also used by the population. Due to climatic and other environmental variables, elephants should continue to enjoy mobility, so the confinement to certain reserves is harmful. The Politics of Conservation Wildlife 1986 clearly recognizes that if the value of wildlife resources is not granted, the requirements of other land uses will inadvertently contrary to the continued existence of wildlife resources in reasonable quantities. Conflicts between elephants and people resulting from a growing population of elephants in Botswana may be unfavorable long-term if the first communities living alongside elephants estimate that their livelihood is adversely affected by a "resource" that does not benefit them ( communities) directly . This policy, and other government policies , such as the Tourism Policy and the National Conservation Strategy , emphasizes the use of natural resources of the country , including elephants , on a sustainable basis in the long term good of Botswana .
