INDO-BANGLA BORDER GUARDS CHIEFS SPEAK AFTER MEETING, 1998-10-28 (photo)

E.N. Ram Mohan (R), director-general of Indian Border Security Force, and his Bangladesh counterpart Major-General Azizur Rahman (L) speak to reporters after a three-day meeting in Dhaka October 28. The two sides agreed to intensify cooperation in curbing cross-border crimes like smuggling, trafficking of women and children, and drugs and arms dealing. Police say some 15,000 Bangladeshi women and children are lured out of the country by traffickers on false promises for jobs and marriage every year, and they mostly end up in brothels in India and other countries.
