Terengganu produces about 60 percent of Malaysia's oil output, which in 1999 stood at 712,000 barrels per day. The state receives between 400 million ringgit ($105 million) and 500 million ringgit ($132 million) a year - depending on petroleum prices - or five percent of petroleum revenue from the federal government. But the new elected state government of Parti Islam se-Malaysia said that little of the oil money had filtered down to the population and said it wants a minimum of 20 percent.
