The protestors demanded British-based Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Plc abandon its control over of the private bank. The Indonesian Bank restructuring Agency (IBRA) took over ownership of Bank Bali earlier this year following a deal in which the SCB was given a management control as well as paying Bank Bali's recapitalisation costs. But the deal had to be changed when SCB discovered the cost involved had grown due to Bank Bali's payment of a hefty commission in an alleged loan-recovery deal, which became the centre of political scandal in Indonesia.
