A Chinese policeman guards the damaged insignia of the U.S. hanging outside the embassy in Beijing May 12, 1999 as Chinese demonstrators, infuriated by the bombing of their Belgrade embassy, staged three days of nonstop protests. China on Sunday marked quietly the sensitive first anniversary of the NATO bombing of its embassy in Yugoslavia. The bombing, which killed three Chinese people and sparked anti-NATO demonstrations across China, took place on May 7 in Belgrade, or early on May 8 in Beijing time.
