BRITISH FM COOK VISITS CAMP ZEIST IN AMESFOORT, 1999-01-13 (photo)

British Foreign Minister Robin Cook (R) visits the military compound "Camp Zeist " in Amesfoort January 13. Camp Zeist was chosen for the trial of two Libyan suspects in the Lockerbie bombing. Cook said he wants to use his one day official visit to the Netherlands, where Britain wants the two Libyan suspects to be tried, to launch a direct appeal for them to be handed over by the Libyan authorities. Libya has sought a trial in a neutral country but has objected to details of the U.S.-British plan for a hearing in The Netherlands under Scottish law and has so far not handed over the two suspects. The Pan Am airplane, flight 103, was blown up out of the sky above the town of Lockerbie just over ten years ago, killing 270 people on the ground and in the air,including 189 Americans. JFL/ME
