An acetylene welder breaks up sections of the Liner SS Britannic for scrap, 1961 Wards Inverkeithing yard was said to be one of the best equipped worldwide and could dismantle ships of over 50,000 tons. The Britannic was built in Belfast by Harland and Wolf and launched in 1929. She was diesel rather than stream powered and her interiors were Art Deco. A Cunard White Star liner the Britannic mainly sailed on the Liverpool to New York route and made her final trip in 1960 before being sold as scrap to the British Iron and Steel Company.
