A photograph of the German athletics team giving the Nazi salute, taken by Edward G Malindine for the Daily Herald newspaper on 19 August 1933. This photograph was taken at the White City Stadium, London, before an international athletics match between Great Britain and Germany. In 1936, the British team at the Berlin Olympic Games refused to give the Nazi salute to Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) during the opening ceremony. Infamously, however, when the England football team played Germany in the same stadium two years later, they agreed. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs.
