Image description

This relief fragment dates to the time of the Assyrian king Sennacherib (r. 704-681 B.C.) and comes from the great Southwest Palace he called the "Palace Without Rival" at Nineveh in northern Iraq, ancient Mesopotamia, originally as part of a procession scene. Beard, clothing, and jewellery show particularly high status; the diadem with rosettes and fabric from the back is often associated in this period with the Assyrian crown-prince.
