Image description

Hidetsugu Ogura, an eight-year-old in Nagoya, central Japan, tries an omnidirectional imaging sensor device to look around a visualized world, August 26. The system can provide users with a natural feeling of looking at a real dynamic world, whereas conventional systems, which use regular cameras, suffer a time delay from when a user changes viewing directions to when the viewer sees the displayed image. The device, developed by the Graduate School of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, was exhibited at the 15th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and is expected to have applications in video surveillance, distance education, virtual sightseing and use in interactive videos.
