Hong Kong Governor Chris Patten talks on a courtside telephone between games during a social tennis match with his family, on a private court inside Government House early May 2, after it became clear the Labour Party were headed for a massive victory in the British general election. Patten, a former Chairman of the British Conservative Party who was credited with masterminding the conservative election victory in 1992, has doggedly evaded questions of his own future after he sails out of Hong Kong on July 1 after the British territory is handed back to China.
