Louis IV (Ludwig) Wittelsbach(1282-1347) King of the Romans (1314), King of Italy (1327) and Holy Roman Emperor (1328) was in conflict with Frederick the Fair (c.1289-1330) Hapbsburg and held Frederick captive in Trausnitz castle, Switzerland, for three years from 1322-5; in 1325, by the Treaty of Trausbitz, Fredercik recognised Louis as legitimate ruler; illustration from 'A Pictorial History of the World's Great Nations, from the earliest dates to the present time' by Charlotte Mary Yonge, published in New York in 1882;
