Running, J E Lovelock. Greatest middle distance runner, Jack Lovelock achieved crowning ambition in winning Olympic 1,500 metres, for New Zealand, at 1936 games in Berlin in World's record time of 3 mins 47.8 secs. Has held World's mile record and won historic "Mile of the Century" at Princeton University in 1935 from American cracks, W R Bonthron, then World's 1,500 metres record holder, and Glenn Cunningham.
