Locals watch Australian and New Zealand soldiers destroy handed-in weapons in the Solomon Island's capital Honiara July 26, 2003. Around 25 weapons consisting of home-made guns, bolt-action rifles and a cross-bow that were handed into authorities were destroyed during the ceremony. The soldiers are part of the 2000-strong intervention force consisting of police, troops and support personnel that are assisting the near-bankrupt south Pacific nation after five years of ethnic fighting and lawlessness has claimed hundreds of lives and left up to 30,000 people homeless.
