With Australia boasting a faster Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth compared with other developed nations, a debate has emerged over how accurately GDP reflects the standard of living. The government's Australian Bureau of Statistics is planning to issue a new measure of lifestyle, which includes 23 other variables covering social and environmental factors, called the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) that they say will show Australians are not so much better off.
