Gobelinwirkerei. Translation: Gobelin Weaving. Medieval tapestry flourished again in the 17th and 18th centuries. After the manufactory founded by the Gobelin family in Paris and nationalized by Louis XIV, Gobelin factories were also set up in Germany (Berlin and Munich) under princely protection, in which carpets of gigantic proportions were woven according to artists' designs. Illustration for Deutsche Kulturbilder, 1400-1900 (Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, 1934).
