Shoulder title, 1st Battalion, 151st Infantry, 1918-1921. Brass badge in form of the unit’s regimental number, ‘151’. The 1st Battalion of the 151st Sikh Infantry was formed in Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) in the last year of the First World War (1914-1918). The formation of the 151st Sikhs was part of a reorganisation of forces in the Middle East. New units, drawn from existing India Army regiments, were formed to take the place of British units transferred to the Western Front to make up the heavy losses suffered during the German Spring Offensive. The unit transferred to India in 1918, participated in the 3rd Afghan War in 1919, and was disbanded in May 1921. From the Field Marshal Sir John Chapple Indian Army Collection.
