Pair of warm padded boots worn by Second Lieutenant Jack Selwyn Jenkins, 58th Vaughan's Rifles (Frontier Force), 1920 circa. These boots were worn by Jenkins during his service in Waziristan on the North West Frontier. Jenkins joined the Army in 1919 and two years later won the Military Cross defending a convoy near Rogha Khot on 17 March 1921 in British operations against the Wazir and Mahsud tribesmen who had risen up en masse after the 3rd Afghan War (1919). Jenkins later commanded 17th Battalion, 13th Frontier Force Rifles, during World War Two (1939-1945), by which time he had been promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.
