Button, 2nd Battalion 70th Burma Rifles, 1917-1922. Blackened brass button by Jennens and Company with regimental numbers, ‘7’ and ‘0’ flanking crossed dahs (Burmese swords), surmounted by a crown, with the title, ‘Burma’ above, and ‘Rifles’, below. The 2nd Battalion 70th Burma Rifles was raised in December 1917 in Burma during World War One (1914-1918). The unit took up garrison duties in the Middle East after the end of the War. In 1922, when the 70th and the 85th Burma Rifles were amalgamated, the Battalion became the 2nd Battalion 20th Burma Rifles. From the Field Marshal Sir John Chapple Indian Army Collection.
