SNOW GEESE FRAME AIRLINER WHILE FLYING OVER BIRD SANCTUARY, 2001-11-15 (photo)

Snow Geese frame an airliner, taking off from Vancouver International Airport, while flying over the Riefel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, British Columbia. Every autumn some 100,000 geese migrate 5,000-km back to Canada and as far south as California, from their summer home on Russia's Wrangel Island in Siberia. The geese will fly the distance in stages with their first stop on St. Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea. From there they fly to the Yukon Delta in Alaska where they will remain for several weeks feeding before continuing onto the south coast of British Columbia. Photo taken November 15, 2001.
