Image description

Henri Guisan, former General of the Swiss Army, was received on 14 July 1948, the French national holiday, as guest of honour by an honorary company of French genius soldiers in St. Gingolph. The “Friendship Ship” transported building materials from Lausanne to St. Gingolph during the day as part of the “European reconstruction chain” and handed them over to the population. The village on the Swiss border on Lake Geneva was largely destroyed by German soldiers and the SS in a retaliatory action towards the end of the Second World War.
