Switzerland Nuclear Power Plant Protest Kaiseraugst, 1975 (b/w photo)

Several hundred people of the Nonviolent Action Kaiseraugst occupied the construction site of the planned Kaiseraugst nuclear power plant (AG) on April 1, 1975. In the following days and weeks thousands of nuclear power opponents from Switzerland, the Federal Republic of Germany and France visited the area. The public festival mood and serious discussions shaped the picture, as here on 9 April 1975. The necessity and safety of nuclear energy was questioned for the first time by a broad public. After years of protest and a long occupation history, the Upper House (Bundesrat) finally decided not to build the nuclear power plant, which is superfluous in the energy industry.
