Ahmet Güneştekin was born in Turkey in 1966. He is self-taught and works in many different media ranging from painting to conceptual art to sculpture. In the early 2000s, he abandoned the figurative work he had been doing and instead focused on "narrative abstraction." His style draws from geometric vernacular motifs from his childhood like carpet design, Ottoman copperware, lamps, etc. To create his paintings he first lays a complex web of black acrylic paint before filling in each space with oil paint.
