King Oscytil (right) and two other Danish chiefs with weapons. They wear tunic, thorax or quilted linen breastplate, greaves, and brandish sword and axe. The three men are shown as they killed Abbot Theodore of Croyland in 890. Danish habits from a curious Saxon reliquary in the possession of Thomas Astle Esq. Handcoloured engraving by Joseph Strutt from his Complete View of the Dress and Habits of the People of England, Henry Bohn, London, 1842.
