Image description

Prime Minister William Pitt fights Richard Sheridan of the opposition in a bare-knuckle boxing match. Sheridan is cheered on by Charles James Fox, and Pitt is backed by King George III. Pitt had become unpopular due to military failures, higher taxation and a poor harvest. He was attacked in public and often required a personal guard. In response, Pitt introduced the Seditious Meetings Bill, banning groups of over 50 people meeting without the approval of a magistrate.
