Pietro PEDRANZINI, Italian patriot

Pietro PEDRANZINI (9 October 1826-3 September 1903) Italian patriot, lieutenant of the National Guard and Municipal Secretary of Bormio (SO), Gold Medal for Military Valor “For driving along the very difficult and dangerous pass of the Reit the column Zambelli that cut off the retreat to the Austrians and to have gone down, first of all, on the postal road to intercept the pass to the escapees and determine the surrender of 75 prisoners with very serious personal risk”, on 11 July 1866, at the height of the Third Italian War of Independence (20 June—12 August 1866). In the admiring and affectionate emphasis of his fellow citizens his heroic gesture is handed down as a completely solitary action in which, after climbing the Reit Cima for the passage that has since led the his name, descended from the scree of Glandadura towards the road of Stelvio, sounding the horn, shooting with the rifle and rolling the stones in a big fuzz, fearing the Austrians who took refuge by locking himself in the Gandrone of the I Cantoniera. Intimated surrender, he had his arms laid down to them and brought them uncolonnaded and captive to Bormio.
