The Corcoran, or Irish, Legion was a Union Army legion during the American Civil War, under the command of Michael Corcoran (1827-1863); Corcoran was an Irish immigrant and his status as war hero amongst the Irish immigrant population meant that he managed to recruit a good many Irishmen to the Union cause; The Corcoran Legion's fifth regiment, for which this bill is recruiting, became the 155th Regiment of New York Infantry; This opportunity is billed as being "a splendid opportunity for young men to join a Crack Regiment."
