Oil painting on canvas, Anne Hoare, Lady Hoare (1737-1759) (after Francis Cotes) by Samuel Woodforde, RA (Ansford 1763 - Ferrara 1817) A half-length portrait of a seated woman, looking to the left with a red curtain behind her, playing a cittern. The sitter was the daughter of Henry Hoare II and married her cousin Sir Richard Hoare, 1st Bt. She wears a satin dress embroidered with flowers and elaborately decorated with lace and lace collar.The painting is a copy of the pastel by Francis Cotes (London 1726 - London 1770) in Stourhead House the companion picture of which is dated 1757, a year after her marriage and two years before her death.
