Sir Richard Onslow, 1st Baron Onslow of Onslow (1654-1717) or Sir Richard Onslow (1601 - 1664) ('The Red Fox of Surrey') Style of Robert Walker (c.1600 – London c.1659), previously attributed to John Michael Wright (London 1617 - London 1694). A three-quarter length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, his left arm resting on the back of a red upholstered chair with gilt studs, he holds a glove in his left hand and his gloved right hand is at his waist. He is wearing a black gown with a falling white linen collar. He has brown shoulder-length hair. There is a table on the left, on which rests a quill, inkpots and papers. Behind the table is an open window with a distant horizon.
