Switzerland Civil Defence Book, 1969 (b/w photo)

In the bookstore “Steinentor” or “Tanner” in Basel, Switzerland, piles of copies of the “Zivilverteidigungsbuechlein” are found on 19 November 1969 alongside works by critical authors such as Peter Bichsel, Max Frisch and Hans Gmuer. The “Civil Defence Buechlein” can be exchanged for Peter Bichsel's book “Des Schweizer” in both bookstores. The civil defence books will then be sent to Federal Councillor Ludwig von Moos. In September 1969, the Federal Department of Justice and Police, on behalf of the Federal Council, distributed the book free of charge to all Swiss budgets. The book is controversial because it brings pacifism and criticism of the state closer to enemy powers.
