Image description

On 29 May 1929, the foundation stone for the Masurenallee broadcasting centre (today: Haus des Rundfunks) was ceremoniously laid by Reich Post Minister Georg Schätzel in Berlin-Westend. On behalf of the Reich Minister of the Interior, State Secretary Erich Zweigert (seated in the middle of the picture, 2nd from the right next to the microphone) performed the hammer blows, and on behalf of the City of Berlin, Lord Mayor Gustav Böß (in the middle of the picture, to the left of the empty chair). In the picture the Prussian Minister of Culture Carl Heinrich Becker is standing at the foundation stone. Many photographers and a film camera were present at the event. In the background, several people are standing on an excavator of "Philipp Holzmann A.G." from Frankfurt am Main.
