Multi-terrain pattern (MTP) tier two pelvic protection armour, 2010 circa. Introduced in December 2010, the tier two detachable pelvic body armour was the second layer of a three-tiered pelvic protection system designed to help mitigate the effects of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts. It was issued to all troops operating outside their bases in Afghanistan (2001-2014). It could be rolled up, clipped to a belt and then pulled through the legs to form a protective pouch. The pelvic protection system aimed to balance protection with the necessary comfort and maneuverability for troops to undertake operations, enabling them to wear one or more of the protective layers depending on the task.
