Landing troops from transports at Lao Shan Bay, September 1914. Photograph, World War One, Far East (1914-1918), 1914. 2nd Battalion The South Wales Borderers, along with a detachment of the 36th Sikhs, formed the bulk of the British troops sent to assist the Japanese in capturing Germany’s naval base at Tsingtao (Qingdao) in China. The expeditionary force, commanded by Major-General Nathaniel Barnardiston, landed at Lao Shan Bay in September 1914. From an album of 24 photographs presented to Brig Gen, later Maj Gen, Nathaniel Walter Barnardiston.
