Image description

Folding bicycle for use by airborne troops, 1944 circa. Made by Birmingham Small Arms Company. The light weight Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) folding bicycle was designed to be carried by a paratrooper jumping from an aircraft. As the soldier descended a quick-release strap allowed him to drop the bicycle prior to landing. The bicycle was used by British paratroopers during the D-Day landings and at Arnhem in 1944.
