Image description: Hugh le Despenser, 1st Lord Despenser (c.1286-1326) "the younger Despenser" rose to national prominence as royal chamberlain and a favourite of King Edward II whose wife Isabella of France (1295-1358), the She-Wolf, invaded England with a French army (shown in the foreground of this illumination). Despenser's resistance lead to his arrest as a traitor, he was tried in Hereford and condemned to death. On 24th November 1326 he was dragged naked through the streets and hanged, watched by the queen. Still alive, he was cut down and disemboweled before beheading, his head displayed on London Bridge.
