Portrait of Lord Thomas Grey (1623-57) of Groby (oil on canvas)

one of the signatories of death warrant of Charles I; Thomas Grey was the eldest son of Henry Grey, 1st Earl of Stamford (1599-1673) and Lady Anne Cecil, daughter of William Cecil, 3rd Earl of Exeter. He married Dorothy Bouchier, daughter of Edward Bouchier, 4th Earl of Bath, by whom he had three children. He was an active and noted Parliamentarian and was among the signatories to the death warrant of Charles I; his signature appears just above that of Oliver Cromwell. This portrait was said, in 1797, to have been ‘copied from a picture at Knightleys’ (i.e. Fawsley, Northamptonshire), possibly in the 17th century.
