Colonel Robert Myddleton Biddulph MP (1805-1872)

The Hon. Henry Richard Graves (1818-1882). Oil painting on canvas, Colonel Robert Myddleton Biddulph MP (1805-1872) by The Hon. Henry Richard Graves (1818-1882), signed with initials and dated 'HG 1869', lower left. An almost three-quarter length portrait, turned three-quarters to left, gazing at spectator, his hair is parted on his left, moustache and beard, wearing the dark green uniform of Lord Lieutenant of Denbighshire Rifles, his left hand on his sword hilt. Robert was the son of Charlotte Myddelton and Robert Biddulph of Ledbury. He was Liberal MP for 20 years. It was he who employed Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin to carry out extensive work at Chirk. Colonel Robert married Fanny Mostyn Owen 1832. The painting was presented to his wife in 1873 after his death. Chirk Castle, Wrexham (Accredited Museum)
