Image description

British (English) School. Oil painting on canvas, Miss Kempson, Mrs Hugford Hassall, British (English) School, circa 1710/20. A painted oval, half-length portrait of the sitter, turned slightly to the right, her head turned to face the spectator. She has brown hair and wears a mid-blue silk or satin robe with pink lining of a cross-over design. A white chemise with a ruffle is visible at her breast and also below the cuff of her right sleeve. Daughter of John Kempson of Henley-in-Arden, and sister of Margaret Kempson, wife of Thomas Ferrers (1713-1760), she became the wife of Hugford Hassall.
