A three-quarter-length portrait, turned slightly to left, head inclined slightly to right, gazing at spectator, wearing a flowing black wig, lace cravat, armour, with a red velvet mantle lined with ermine and surcoat showing beneath armour embroidered with a rose and thistle, his left hand on his hip, sceptre in his right hand which rests on a sculptured lion, a crown is on a draped table bottom right; brocaded drape with tassel across background centre and right, stormy sky to left.
