The Bloody Shouldered Arabian

A groom in oriental costume stands on the right holding the rein of an arabian stallion with a bloody shoulder. This celebrated grey of apparently rare Gordeen breed, sent from Aleppo to Edward Harley by his uncle Nathaniel Harley, a Turkish merchant, in 1720, stands to the right, displaying its right roan-stained right shoulder in a landscape and the man leans on his left elbow against the plinth of a column.
