The daughter of Sir William Pennington, 1st Bt (1655–1730) and Isabella Stapleton. She was first married to Dr John Archer (d.1735) of Oxenholme, and then to Thomas Peter Strickland as his second wife.This picture was probably painted during her first marriage, by a painter born and based in Warrington.
