British (English) School. Oil painting on canvas, Sir Henry Bedingfeld, 2nd Bt (1636-1704) as a Boy. Half-length portrait of a young boy, turned half-left, gazing at the spectator, long natural fair hair falling on his shoulders. He wears slashed sleeves of a golden brown coat revealing white full sleeves of shirt beneath and with a falling lace cravat. Left hand on hip. Right hand holds a scroll, inscribed: TAM ARTE QUAM MARTE (the arts of peace as well as war). A brown embroidered sword sash is draped over his right shoulder. Inscription 'Sir H. Bedingfeld Bt' top left, also 'Sir Henry Bedingfeld, 2nd Bart, Died 1704'. Oxburgh Hall, Norfolk (Accredited Museum)
