Prahasta encounters a fearsome, dark doorkeeper enveloped in flames, and is then shown departing from the palace to impart this information to Rāvaṇa, his master. Upon entering the palace, Rāvaṇa encounters that very doorkeeper, who tells him that this is the abode of Bali, Lord of the dÄnavas. On the right, Rāvaṇa is shown seated with Bali; when he asks to know the identity of the doorkeeper he is told that it is Viá¹£á¹‡u, the Preserver, the king of all gods. Though fearful, Rāvaṇa wishes to engage in combat with Viá¹£á¹‡u, but in deference to BrahmÄ, who has granted Rāvaṇa a boon of invincibility, Viá¹£á¹‡u vanishes, proclaiming that he will not kill the Lord of the rÄká¹£asas yet.
