Icarus 1954 (colour litho)

Image description: Icarus 1954. A French aviator, Leo Valentin, launched himself from an airplane over three thousand meters high, having as his only support two wooden wings he built. He then glided gently, covering a distance of five kilometers and going down to 762 meters; at this height he then opened the parachute happily touching the ground. The wings are joined with straps to a metal corset that wraps around the aviator's chest. He then slips his arms into other straps and holds two handles with his hands. The wings weigh a total of 14 kilos. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 30 May 1954.
