Brachylophosaurus - A group of Brachylophosaurus canadensis is attacked by a Daspletosaurus torosus. In the sky, a couple of pterosaurs (azhdarchidae) observe the scene. Montana, USA, 77 million years ago. In a 77-million-year-old wetland in Montana, the individual of Brachylophosaurus canadensis called “” Leonardo”” (far right) bellows a call, warning his herd of an ambush by a Daspletosaurus torosus (background, left). A pair of azhdarchid pterosaurs survey the scene aerially while a Basilemys tutle observes from the water in the foreground
Acrocanthosaurus and Sauroposeidons - Acrocanthosaurus and Sauroposeidons - View of an Acrocanthosaurus (Acrocanthosaurus atokensis) with a group of Sauroposeidons (Sauroposeidon proteles) in the distance. On the left, a coniferous drill (Frenelopsis ramosissima). The huge carnivorous dinosaur Acrocanthosaurus atokensis emerges from a stand of conifers (Frenelopsis ramosissima) onto a wide flood plain near the eastern coast of the Western Interior Seaway (an extension of the Atlantic that ran through the middle of North America in the Cretaceous period) to stalk a trio of Oklahoma's gigantic sauropods (Sauropods) On proteles). Acrocanthosaurus atokensis was recently declared the state dinosaur of Oklahoma
Microraptor - Microraptor was a genus of small dromaeosaurid living in the lower cretace between 130 and 120 million years. A feathered Microraptor alights atop a tree fern 120 million years ago in what is today Liaoning, China. Like the older Archaeopteryx, Microraptor was about size of a modern European Magpie and is one of smallest dinosaurs ever discovered. Microraptor's entire body was covered with feathers including a broad stabilizing tail and elongated feathers for flying on both its arms and legs, leading to its classification as a four-winged dromaeosaur
Late Cretaceous Fauna - Late Cretaceous Fauna - Late Cretaceous Fauna surrounded by Metasequoias. From left to right: Gorgosaurus libratus, Edmontonia longiceps, Brachylophosaurus canadensis, Stegoceras validum, Styracosaurus albertensis and Chasmosaurus belli. This landscape depicts a metasequoia-dominated forest in Montana during the Campanian of the late Cretaceous. Gathering in a clearing are (left to right) Gorgosaurus libratus, Edmontonia longiceps, Brachylophosaurus canadensis, Stegoceras validum, Styracosaurus albertensis and Chasmosaurus belli

Caudipteryx amidst Williamsonia - Caudipteryx is a genus of theropod dinosaur in the oviraptorosaur family. Maybe Caudipteryx was omnivorous. He lived 100 to 130 million years ago. It was two metres long, 60 centimetres high and a weight of 15 kilograms. It is considered an oviraptoride because of its edent beak and feathers. Peacock-sized theropod dinosaurs of the genus Caudipteryx wander a landscape dominated by cycad-like seed plants of the genus Williamsonia 125 million years ago in what is today China. Caudipteryx was a maniraptoran with a combination of reptile and bird-like features, including soft downy feathers that covered its body and a broad feathered tail. It could not fly, but was probably a swift runner
Hesperonychus - View of a group of Hesperonychus on a lake in Alberta 75 million years ago. In the background, a Gorgosaurus libratus approaches. Hesperonychus elizabethae is a small dinosaur from the late Cretace who lived in the United States. It belongs to the family Dromaeosauridae. A group of North America's smallest known carnivorous, non-avian dinosaur, estimated to weigh 1.9 kg, the recently described Hesperonychus elizabethae prowls the shores of a shallow Albertan lake in the Campanian Late Cretaceous (75 million years ago) while a much larger theropod, Gorgosaurus libratus, approaches from the opposite shore. Hesperonychus elizabethae was a genus of small, carnivorous dromaeosaurid dinosaur

Purgatorius and Bistahieversor - The Bistahieversor is a carnivorous dinosaur living in New Mexico at the end of the cretace 75 million years ago. It was about 9 metres long and weighed at least one ton. In the foreground, a Purgatorius tries to hide himself. A rat-sized Purgatorius hides among the undergrowth of a cretaceous forest while a 30 foot long, 2,000 pound tyrannosaur boreages for its next meal in what is today the western United States. Bistahieversor is a genus of tyrannosauroid dinosaur named after Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness where it was found. Purgatorius is the genus for several species of small omnivorous mammals that are believed to be the among the earliest ancestors of modern-day chimps, rhesus monkeys, and humans. The extinction of the larger and more powerful dinosaurs may have been what led to world's domination by mammals today. While there is no direct evidence that Purgatorius and Bistahieversor ever shared the same wilderness, this image is yet illustrative of the predator-prey relationship that characterized dinosaurs and mammals for many millions of years
Sauroposeidon & Acrocanthosaurus - A group of Acrocanthosaurs (Acrocanthosaurus atokensis) is approaching a 50-tonne sauroposeidon (Sauroposeidon proteles). A 50 ton plant-eating Sauroposeidon strolls through the shallow waters of a river delta while a pair of carnivorous Acrocanthosaurus think better of trying to bring down the massive sauropod. The location is the Western Interior Seaway 110 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous Period in what is today southeastern Oklahoma. Acrocanthosaurus was a large bipedal predator, one of the largest of its day. It is known for the high spines that ran along its back
Sauroposeidon & Deinonychus - Deinonychus was a small carnivorous dinosaur, two metres high, who lived in Cretace, Montana. Deinonychus could reach a maximum of 3 metres in length and a weight of 80 kg. In the distance, a sauroposeidon walks among the western plane trees and the magnolias. Sauroposeidon graze on American Sycamore and Flowering Magnolia while feathered deinonychus look on. The location is a river delta on the Western Interior Seaway 110 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous Period in what is today southeastern Oklahoma. Sauroposeidon is the tallest known dinosaur with a neck that could reach up to 56 feet high. Deinonychus on the other hand was a relatively small predator, 11 feet long and standing about three feet tall at the hip. It was a close relative to the smaller velociraptor which emerged later in Central Asia. Deinonychus wasn't powerful enough to bring down a giant like an adult sauroposeidon, however they did likely prey on juvenile or sick adults of the species
Antarctosaurus stalked by an Abelisaurus - Antarctosaurus stalked by Abelisaurus - An Abelisaurus (Abelisaurus) chases a young Antarctosaurus in a forest in Argentina. A 30-foot-long, 10 ton juvenile titanosaurian sauropod dinosaur of the genus Antarctosaurus is approached from behind by a 25-foot-long, two ton adult abelisaurid theropod dinosaur of the genus Abelisaurus deep in a forest in what is today Argentina. Likely a fierce predator, Abelisaurus resembled the larger Tyrannosaurus Rex that was to roam North America 10 million years later. Antarctosaurus was an herbivore that may have grown to 60 feet long and weighed up to 100 tons. Antarctosaurus had a squarish, blunt head with peg-shaped teeth
Masiakasaurus - Masiakasaurus (meaning Vicious Lizard “”) is a genus of small theropod dinosaur Abelisauride from Madagascar, measuring about 2 metres and a weight of 30 kg, living at the end of Cretace (75 to 65 million years). Small predatory theropod dinosaurs of the genus Masiakasaurus explores a forest of cypress, ferns and horsetails 70 million years ago in what is today Madagascar.Masiakasaurus was a small-bodied carnivore that grew to about six feet long and weighed up to 200 pounds. Its front teeth were projected forward, giving it a buck toothed appearance, an adaptation that is believed to have aided it in catching fish and other small prey.
Ornithomimus - An ornithomimus edmontonicus passes near a champsosaurus. In the background an Edmontonia longiceps. Ornithomimus is an Ornithmomidae dinosaur dating back to the late cretaceous and found fossils in the western United States. The Ornithomimus was 3.5 metres long and 2.1 metres high and weighed between 100 and 150 kg. He was paged and looked like an ostrich. An ornithomimus edmontonicus near a champsosaurus. In background is an Edmontonia longiceps. Ornithomimus is a genus of dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous Period. Ornithomimus was 3.5 meters long, 2.10 meters high and weighed around 100-150 kg. It was bipedal and resembled an ostrich

Gigantoraptor compares a un oviraptor - Gigantoraptor and Oviraptor - Gigantoraptor erlianensis is an oviraptoride dinosaur living in the upper cretace 85 million years ago. It was nearly 8 metres long and weighed over a ton. The Oviraptor (Oviraptor philoceratops) is a small theropod dinosaur that also lived in the late Cretace. Gigantoraptor erlianensis was a giant oviraptorosaurian dinosaur that lived 85 million years ago during the late Cretaceous Period. Found from northern Chinas and Inner Mongolia. It was almost 8 meters long and weighed about 1.4 tons. Oviraptor philoceratops was a small theropod dinosaur living in the late cretaceous period
Late Cretaceous Fauna - Late Cretaceous Fauna - Late Cretaceous Fauna. On the banks of the Inner Sea of Niobraran, a Gorgosaurus libratus has a mosasaurus carcass while a Dromaeosaurus albertensis (in the foreground) and a Sauronitholestes langstoni (in the background) roam near the feast. Montana during the late Cretaceous. Near the shores of the Western Interior Seaway, a Gorgosaurus libratus feasts on the washed-up carcass of a mosasaur while Dromaeosaurus albertensis (foreground) and Sauronitholestes langstoni wait hungrily for a morsel
Caudipteryx and Peacock -Comparison - Caudipteryx and peacock compared - Caudipteryx compares a current peacock (Pavo cristatus). Caudipteryx is an extended genus of theropod dinosaur in the oviraptorosaur family. Maybe Caudipteryx was omnivorous. He lived 100 to 130 million years ago. It was two metres long, 60 centimetres high and a weight of 15 kilograms. An adult theropod dinosaur of the genus Caudipteryx from 125 million years ago is compared to a modern adult peacock (Pavo cristatus). Both the Caudipteryx and peacock are about 30 inches tall.* Values are estimates only based upon available paleontological data
Comparison between a polar bear and Tyrannosaurus Rex - Tyrannosaurus rex & polar bear compared - A 3-metre polar bear (Ursus maritimus) compares to a seven-ton Tyrannosaur living in the cretacious cretacious 68 million years ago. A coelurosaurian theropod dinosaur of the species Tyrannosaurus rex from 68 million years ago is compared to a modern adult male polar bear (Ursus maritimus). The Tyrannosaurus rex is about 13 feet tall at the hip, 40 feet long and weighs seven tons* while the polar bear stands 10 feet tall and weighs 1,400 pounds. The polar bear is currently the largest terrestrial predator in the world while Tyrannosaurus rex was the largest known tyrannosaurid and one of the largest known predators ever to have walked the earth.
Tyrannosaurus rex and Purgatorius - A seven-ton Tyrannosaurus in a cretacious forest 68 million years ago. A Purgatorius is watching his way. Purgatorius is the name of a genus of four fossil species considered to be the oldest representatives of primates (proto-primates). A 40 foot long, seven ton coelurosaurian theropod dinosaur of the species Tyrannosaurus rex wanders among oak trees and ground ferns 68 million years ago on a Cretaceous island continent known as Laramidia in what is today the western United States. This example of Tyrannosaurus rex hosts fur-like downy feathers on its head, back and along the top of its tail. While it's not known whether Tyrannosaurus rex was feathered, other tyrannosaur fossils have shown tantalizing evidence of them.On the lower left is a rodent-size proto-primate of the genus Purgatorius, and in the lower middle is an amphibious tetrapod of the family Salamandridae
Impact on the Moon at the Cretace - Cretaceous lunar strike - Artist's view of an asteroid impact on the Moon illuminating a nocturnal landscape of the cretace. In the foreground, a spinosaur, a theropod dinosaur who lived in what is now Egypt 95 to 93 million years ago. What may appear here as a diamond ring effect from a solar eclipse is in fact a brilliant and momentary flash of light signaling a massive asteroid impact on the Moon. The Moon and all the inner planets of the Solar System show evidence of a long and violent history of encounters with meteorites and asteroids - leftover debris from the formation of the Solar System. This image depicts an asteroid colliding with the Moon about 95 million years ago. The perspective is from the surface of the Earth in what today is Egypt. The impact would have released millions of times more energy than today's largest nuclear weapon, creating a flash of light that would be far brighter than any star in the sky. In the foreground of this image stands a wary Spinosaurus, an enormous meat-eating dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period. Its typical length from tail tip to snout was 40-50 feet, and is believed to have weighed at least 8 tons or more
Torvosaurus and rainbow - A Torvosaurus (Theropode Megalosauridae) walks through the ferns in what is now Colorado 150 million years ago. Weighing nearly two tons, Torvosaurus was one of the largest carnivores of his time. In the sky of the pterosaurs. A Megalosaurid theropod dinosaur of the genus Torvosaurus relaxes among cycads and ferns 150 million years ago in what is today Colorado. In the background are juniper and ginkgo and in the sky flying reptiles of order Pterosauria. A meat-eater that grew to 35 feet long and weighed two tons, Torvosaurus was one of the largest carnivores of its time

Spinosaur - Spinosaurus - Spinosaur is a theropod dinosaur that lived in what is now Egypt during the cretacious period 95 to 93 million years ago. It was probably the largest carnivorous dinosaurs. An eight ton Spinosaurus searches for its next meal 95 million years ago in shallow waters of what is today Egypt. With a massive crocodile-like head and enormous muscular body, this terrifying carnivore was larger than the Early Cretaceous Suchomimus and may have been mightier even than the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex of approximately the same period
