Creator: Gross, Anthony (1905-84) A gunner of a coastal defence gun observes the scene through a telescope, Dover, Britain, 1941. On the right, outside the outpost, a soldier keeps guard overlooking the sea in the distance. Anthony Gross was a prolific British official war artist producing over 500 artworks. During the Second World War, Gross was among the first artists to be commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee, and recorded the Blitz, D-Day, events in Burma, North Africa and the Middle East.
