Image description

Thrills of spearfishing. A young man from Syracuse, Antonio Mirabello, who ventured into the depths of the sea in the Bocca di Porto area, to search for large prey, was suddenly seized by the tentacles of a giant octopus. There was then a deadly struggle between the monster and the man. With a chisel that he needed to detach the molluscs, the Mirabello struck repeatedly, but apparently without success, the beast that enveloped him more and more tightly. Only when, exhausted, he was already about to give way, did you feel the grip loosening, while the sea all around was tinged with black. And in that great dark spot, the octopus shot. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 5 September 1954.
