the Younger Willem van de Velde

North Netherlandish painter, 1633-1707

Eldest son and pupil of Willem van de Velde I. He also worked alongside Simon de Vlieger in 1652. To the extent that he was tutored by his father, Willem van de Velde's work is frequently confused with that of the latter. A marine painter like his father, Willem van de Velde II was known for his ability to project tranquility in his composition.
