Marianne Brandt (1893-1983) was a German artist and designer known for her contributions to the Bauhaus movement. She studied painting and sculpture at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts before joining the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in 1923. There, she worked alongside other notable artists such as Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer. After the Bauhaus was closed by the Nazis in 1933, Brandt continued to work as a designer and teacher. She taught at various institutions, including the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. In 1954, she became the head of the metal workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. Brandt's work has been recognized for its innovative use of materials and its influence on modern design. She is considered one of the most important female artists of the Bauhaus movement.
