Velvet plaid dress worn by Princess Victoria; scoop neck trimmed with lace; pleats & bows down front, puff elbow-length sleeve, slightly V waist line, unpressed pleated skirt; silk velvet fabric in vertical & horizontal stripes as in tartan Both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert championed the wearing of tartan, both in their own clothes and in the clothing of their children. Silk velvets of this type, woven to imitate tartan, were popular both in England and France between 1825-1840.
